Celebrating the Honourable Wendy Cocchia on her appointment as Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia

On January 30, 2025, in a ceremony at the British Columbia Legislature, The Honourable Wendy Cocchia was officially appointed as the 31st Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia. Cocchia, a respected entrepreneur, philanthropist, and co-founder of the Pacific Autism Family Network (PAFN), has dedicated her career to advocating for neurodivergent individuals and their families.

Cocchia’s leadership at PAFN has helped the organization grow into a vital resource for neurodivergent individuals and their families, offering educational, therapeutic, and community-building services. Together with her husband, Sergio Cocchia, she co-founded PAFN in 2016, transforming the lives of many in British Columbia.

This appointment is a moment of immense pride for PAFN. Cocchia’s leadership and vision have been integral to the growth and success of the organization, and the entire team at PAFN remain committed and excited to support the neurodivergent community and advancing the vision she shaped.

“On behalf of the Pacific Autism Family Network, I want to express our heartfelt congratulations to Wendy on this momentous occasion,” said Loring Phinney,  Chief Executive Officer, Pacific Autism Family Network. “Her appointment as Lieutenant Governor is testament to tireless community leadership and a commitment to improving the lives of British Columbians.

Cocchia’s new role as Lieutenant Governor will allow her to continue advocating for the values that have defined her work for decades.

“As I step into this role, I reflect on the three core values that deeply guide me,” stated Cocchia during her installation ceremony. “The power of compassion, the call to service, and the perseverance to create a better world.”

“I have seen the journey of many and witnessed the transformative power of meaningful inclusion. Meaningful inclusion is about asking the person - is this working for you, do you feel fulfilled, do you feel welcomed, seen and heard.”

Cocchia’s exceptional contributions to both business and community have earned her numerous accolades and recognitions. She has been honoured with prestigious awards including the Order of Canada, the Order of British Columbia, the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the King Charles III Coronation Medal, and two honorary doctorates.

“I can’t think of anyone better placed to continue this proud tradition than you, your Honour”, proclaimed David Eby, Premier of British Columbia.

As Cocchia begins her service as the 31st Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, the PAFN family looks forward to building upon the strong foundation for meaningful inclusion that is at the heart of its efforts on behalf of the neurodivergent community.
