History of the Saccomaniacs Agriculture for Autism Tournament and Tradeshow
Steve & Antoinette Saccomano, of Chilliwack, started a golf tournament in 2009, to raise funds for autism support. To date over $225,000 has been raised. 2017 goal: to surpass the $300,000.00 mark! Parents of a 19 year old young man with autism, Steve and Antoinette know full well the struggles that individuals and families with autism experience in accessing services and support. What started as a small family golf tournament is now a tradeshow and tournament, hosted on two golf courses, with over 200 attendees and 50 volunteers. The day includes breakfast, lunch and dinner, featuring Fraser Valley products, food and beverages. The tradeshow has 30 booths, hosted by local business people from the agriculture, real estate and banking industries. This culinary event has something for everyone: The Plateau golf course for the golfer who plays often, and the Academy course, a course that has 10 par 3’s and 8 par 4s, making it perfect for the golfer who doesn’t play a lot (although, seasoned golfers have found this course a great test for the irons!). All funds raised are donated to the registered Canadian Charity, Pacific Autism Family Network (PAFN). PAFN opened in November of 2016, in Richmond BC, and serves families and children living with autism spectrum disorder across the province of British Columbia. The Saccomano Lifeskills Learning Classroom is in place at their main Hub. Everyone is welcome to attend the Saccomano Agriculture for Autism Tournament & Tradeshow.
